A Society Directory

The Society.

Founded in 1990. A Society for the women, men, friendships, and considerable opinions of the neighborhood.

— About the Society —

Life in Lincoln Park, in good company.

The Lincoln Park Trixie Society brings Members together, publishes their news, and takes a close interest in life around Armitage, Halsted, and the surrounding streets. A good apartment and someone to meet for coffee are still a very promising start.

How it started

The Society began in 1990 as a small civic organization of women living in Lincoln Park. They wanted a place to discuss the neighborhood and arrange things together. Early Members joined through friends, who generally brought them along before mentioning that there was a committee.

The board later proposed a website to introduce the Society to prospective Members and share news with existing ones. The hand-built site at lptrixie.com brought a much larger readership. Its photographs, newsletters, and columns remain open to Members and the public.

Where it stands

Today the Society has a board, a Foundation, a shop, and an expansion office with portfolios on four continents. At home, its directory covers four village quadrants and five adjoining districts. Margot keeps the boundaries under review.

Members contribute photographs, propose events, and introduce friends. There is room for the first apartment, the single-family house, and the Member who would rather talk about something else over dinner.

The Board.

The officers divide the Society’s work among membership, editorial, events, giving, standards, technology, and expansion. They bring different experience and do not always reach the same conclusion.

— Membership —

Who may join.

The original membership was for women living in the village. The executive board later voted four to one to admit men, creating the TrixieMale category. The discussion took longer than the vote.

TrixieMale applications receive the same close attention as the rest of the roster. Fewer than ten percent are admitted. Standing is reviewed annually; a good first impression is appreciated, but it is not the whole application.

Levels, criteria, and the online application are on the membership page.

What the Society maintains.

The Society maintains a neighborhood directory, publishes the Journal, and keeps its photographic archive. Members recommend places they use and send in what they have seen. The Standards Committee reviews directory entries annually.

See The Village for the survey and the directory, the Society Journal for the record, and the history for how the archive came to be.
