Vivienne "Viv" Ashford-Crane

Director of Society Intelligence
Vivienne Ashford-Crane
An Officer Profile · The Society

Vivienne "Viv" Ashford-Crane directs Society Intelligence. Her office reviews information affecting Members and neighborhood affairs, checks its source, and prepares a confidential brief for the officers. She would rather receive a link than an account of what someone thinks she heard.

Professionally: Viv has a background in corporate security, most recently as a Managing Director at a private practice. She describes her work as protective and keeps client details private. At Society meetings she is usually the person who asks whether anyone has actually read the notice under discussion.

Viv served on Standards before taking on the Intelligence office. She lives on Hudson Avenue with her husband and their two children and drives a black Mercedes G-Wagen. Members have always brought her information. Now she asks them to include where they found it.

Current Initiatives
  • Observer Network — organizing the volunteer roster and setting clear limits on what Members report
  • Information Security — documenting how the Society handles Member records and communications
  • The Standing Brief — a confidential weekly summary to the Officers on conditions in the village, sourced from public information only and circulated to no one outside the Executive Committee
