Quick Tips for a Festive Holiday Season:
- The Society suggests that all Trixies obtain a reloadable Starbucks Card to facilitate quick trips through Village-area Starbucks stores this holiday season. Using your card will not only grant you additional prestige, but will keep your Kate Spade wallet tucked right where it belongs: in your Kate Spade purse. Keep your card in pocket within easy reach, and present your card to the cashier with a smile.
- To avoid the hellish parking situation at North & Clybourn on Saturdays, arrive early and park your Jetta in a prime spot. Relish in walking back to your car after each visit to a major chain store, as non-Lincoln Parkers eagerly wait for your spot. Pack your goods in the trunk, issue your best holiday smile, and walk away in search of your next shopping destination with the cozy feeling that you can only get knowing you have an el primo parking spot.
- Subtlety remind loved ones how much you really care by “Mistakenly” leaving price tags on expensive items.
- At the Office Holiday Party, make sure you imbibe in all the free cranberry vodkas you can get, and then make sure you’ve got a handsome TrixieMale to chauffeur you home. Always bring an extra best friend or two to the party, so they can imbibe on free alcohol as well. If you have problems sneaking your best friend into the party, just say she is a new consultant in the newly-created emerging media group, and doesn’t have her ID yet. A strong smile will help pull the tide in your direction and whisk her by.
- The smart Trixie will always keep a flask on hand to spike her Christmastime eggnog latte with a little something extra. We suggest you do it in the car, but if you must do it in the store, place your Kate Spade bag in front of you as a little barcarole, so that your nosy fellow customers don’t see what you’re up to. Casually saunter out of the store knowing that you’ll be just a little warmer than all the other Jennys and Kates who were in line ordering the same drink.
- Don’t forget that Hanukkah starts on December 10th and ends on December 17th. If you have Jewish friends, make sure you send “Holiday” cards and not “Christmas” cards. This will make everyone feel good.
- Inevitable, most Trixies will be invited to Hanukkah parties as well as Christmas parties. This works out great, since Hanukkah is just before Christmas. The smart host will know this, and schedule her party between the appropriate holiday dates, allowing her guests to enjoy as many parties as possible during the entire season.
- It’s important to buy holiday gifts for your best friends at work. The easiest thing to do, of course, is buy some knickknacks at Starbucks when no one is looking, and package them up and set them on your cubicle-mate’s desk.
- Never try to wrap a package yourself. Always rely on department store wrapping services, even if the line stretches into the next department. Your decision to go pro will be greatly appreciated by the package’s recipient, and will reflect on your good tastes.
- Lastly, when shopping, rely on the never-spoken golden rule of Trixie Shopping Etiquette: If you can get it cheaper at an outlet mall, its’ worth the trip. Load three or four of your best friends into the Jetta, and take a trip to Gurnee Mills or the Lakeside Outlets in Kenosha. Make a pact that no one will tell, and decide who gets the last Ann Taylor blouse before you both reach for it.
Best of luck to you for a festive holiday season!
