The Society has released the Starbucks Drink Configurator — a guided instrument for the construction of a fully specified, Society-approved beverage order. It is available now, and Members are encouraged to use it before their next visit to a Village location.
The problem it solves is a familiar one. A Member knows precisely what she wants, the Member does not always have the vocabulary to deliver it to a barista in a single, uninterrupted callout. The Configurator closes that gap. It asks the pertinent questions — and only the pertinent questions — and returns the order in correct barista syntax, ready to be read aloud or shown on a screen.
What it does
The Member selects a base beverage from the approved list, then specifies size, espresso, milk, syrup pumps, temperature, finish, cup presentation, and the name for the cup. The Configurator assembles the order into one callout.
Each order is also assigned a Complexity Index — a live rating that climbs as the Member adds shots, pumps, foam, drizzle, and additional cupping. The Society offers the Index without judgment, and notes only that orders above a certain threshold are described internally as "operationally demanding."
"A Member should never have to improvise at the counter. The Configurator ensures she does not."
The Configurator is a flagship Society service and will remain free to Members and non-Members alike. The Society does not have a financial relationship with Starbucks. The Society does have standards regarding Starbucks. These are not the same thing.
