We went to Ravinia Thursday to hear the CSO. Jonathan kept the program, so I can ask him what the Russian piece was. I thought it was Prokofiev, but I would check before telling anyone.
We alternate between the lawn and the pavilion. This was a lawn evening. I packed the low chairs and the good insulated tote, and opened the wine at home so we wouldn't have to borrow a corkscrew.
Two blankets over, a couple put together a folding table and hung a battery chandelier from a shepherd’s crook. They had printed place cards for six, on proper cardstock. It was a very pretty setup, although they were still arranging things after the music started.
One of the guests, Miranda, never came. Her place stayed empty all evening. I wondered whether they had heard from her, because there was food set out and everything. I once saw a man drop an entire rotisserie chicken at Pritzker Pavilion, but at least everyone knew what had happened to dinner.
Jonathan thought the orchestra was magnificent. We left during the applause to get ahead of the cars. Miranda's card was lying in the grass on our way out, and I noticed I was still looking for her.
