I do Pilates on Webster on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The studio is quiet, and my instructor can correct my position with two fingers without interrupting what she is saying. I like knowing exactly where I am supposed to be.
Dana has been asking me to try her gym in the West Loop, so I went with her Saturday. It has one of those names like VAULT or FORGE. I remembered the music more clearly than the name. It was loud, and the room was surprisingly dark.
The coach kept calling ‘Engine, Ashley!’ while I rowed. I wasn't sure what I was meant to change. He said my pace should be sustainable, which would have required a much slower pace than the one he appeared to want. He also called it a conversation with myself. I had quite a lot to say.
Dana loved every minute. I can see that it suits her, and it was nice to do something together. I tipped the coach afterward. He looked surprised, but he had spent a great deal of time on me.
I'll be back on Webster Tuesday. I also need to find out whether Dana expects this to become a Saturday arrangement.
