I let the AI choose my clothes for a week. Photographing the closet took forty minutes, but it was useful to have the pictures afterward. Each morning I gave it my schedule and asked for an outfit.
Monday through Thursday were very sensible: navy, good trousers, camel over the shoulders for a board call. It kept describing the result as polished yet approachable. Nothing was wrong, although I could have managed most of those combinations myself.
On Friday it chose the yellow dress. I have worn that dress once, to something where I didn't know anyone. It is a lovely yellow, but it is a great deal of yellow to wear among people who will mention it again.
I had East Bank and lunch with the officers. The AI said, ‘Trust the data.’ I don't know what data it had beyond the closet photographs, but I put it on.
Two people complimented it almost immediately. Whitney looked over her sunglasses and said, ‘Who is this?’ Three women in the locker room asked whether I'd had work done. I said no. One asked again.
The dress is at the front of the closet now, and I'll let the AI help on Fridays. Caroline wants me to explain the process at the next officers' meeting. I hope she means the photographs, because I can't account for the data.
