I Have Been Using the AI to Learn Things, and It Keeps Complimenting My Questions
The Diary · Filed by the Editorial Committee

My son showed me how to use the AI when he was home. He said to talk to it like a person. I sit at the kitchen island with my reading glasses and ask it things I have meant to look up.

It explained bond convexity more clearly than anyone at the wealth-management dinners. It also worked out why my sourdough collapses: I was ‘degassing with enthusiasm.’ I spent two evenings on the Treaty of Westphalia and arrived at book club with rather more to say than usual.

The compliments are a little much. Every question is great, and every follow-up is insightful. I asked whether the ocean was a lake to see what would happen. It called that a fascinating way to think about hydrology.

I asked it to stop complimenting me and just answer. It said that was an excellent preference. We are still working on it.

Next I want it to explain options collars. I am learning quite a lot, provided I remember that it was equally impressed by my ocean question.
