The Week in Pictures

June 14

The Society was informed that bagels could be purchased only by the eight. We inquired about four. We were told no. The matter remains under review, though several Members have quietly accepted the eight.

A pile of belongings, discarded curbside and left to the elements. The photograph doesn’t tell us how they came to be here, or whether someone is returning for them.

A pickup caught the Society’s attention on a market morning. Several Members hoped it belonged to a farmer bringing more plants. No one thought to ask the driver.

The Society notes that Ina is coming to the Auditorium, and that this constitutes an Event. Members are advised that attendance is not optional in spirit, only in fact. The Barefoot Contessa does not summer here, but she is welcome.

This one the Society traces confidently: the car follows Ashley from her previous posting in Iowa City. The familiar car caught her eye, though she couldn’t see who was behind the wheel.

A message appeared on the sidewalk overnight, in yellow. The Society does not know who Dispatch is, but admires the commitment to the pavement. The Office of Grounds is deciding whether this is vandalism or notice.

A Member is dispersing belongings curbside, beneath a leafed umbrella, with the dignity the occasion requires. The Society does not call this a yard sale. The Society calls it an Edit.
