The kitchen television is usually on the news. Someone asked which station I prefer, and I realized I had quite a long answer. I grew up in a Floyd Kalber household, so I am accustomed to having an opinion about the local anchors.
Channel 7 is where I leave it most often. They can make a story about a common kitchen item sound urgent enough that I stay through sports to find out which item. Jonathan says I could look it up. I want to see what they say.
I switch to Channel 5 when I want the helicopter view. A report that traffic is bad on the Kennedy doesn't tell me much. I would like to see exactly where it stops.
Channel 2's investigative stories often have the actual documents on screen, which I appreciate. There was a data-center segment with a silhouetted source whose posture reminded me of Brian. I haven't asked him.
WGN is my favorite company in the morning. The weather people seem aware that we all live here and have been cold before. I like that. Channel 32 is useful when I want the evening news finished earlier. Their morning crew covered a Society event once; we still have the tape.
So the kitchen stays on 7, with occasional changes for traffic. This is less a ranking than an explanation of where the remote goes.
