“Are you doing Mexico?” someone asked in the East Bank locker room on Tuesday. This starts every January, just as the first Cabo tans come home.
Some years we go. I like Punta Mita. We tried Mayakoba once; I didn't care for the lazy river. San Miguel was another matter. That trip produced the dining room chandelier, which was a considerable thing to bring home from a holiday.
This February we are staying here. We have had Maui, and Naples is still undecided. So many people on Burling are going away that the club conversations have already moved into their travel group texts. It might be rather nice to see who's left.
I'm keeping the first week free and planning a small dinner for the second. Just soup, although it takes two days to make. By the time everyone comes back, I expect we'll have a little news of our own.
Next year may well be Mexico. I haven't stopped liking it.
