Where I Get the Bagels

The LPTS Bagel Doctrine
The Diary · The Editorial Committee

Someone at the CAPS planning session asked where I get the bagels. Usually, when I have time, I drive up to New York Bagel and Bialy on Touhy. They have actual bialys, and the bags are still warm when I bring them into the house.

I buy two dozen. It takes about forty minutes there and back, and I like getting home with breakfast before everyone is downstairs. I know there are people who prefer Dempster. Touhy is the one I go to.

On other Sundays I order B.R.O. through DoorDash. The fees nearly cover another dozen bagels. I asked the AI to work it out, and it gave me a convenience premium of 31 percent, followed by ‘but I understand.’ I thought that was rather nice of it.

The delivered ones go straight into my basket. If I've driven to Touhy, I do generally mention it. People appreciate knowing you've made the trip.

Our sergeant grew up in West Rogers Park and recognizes the Touhy sesame bagels immediately. She hasn't asked about the other Sundays.
