When the church basement flooded, I offered our house for the CAPS meeting. I thought they might already have another room lined up. They didn't, so Beat 1814 now meets in our parlor on the second Tuesday.
Attendance has tripled. The coffee is better here, and I order morning buns from my baker. I would like to think people are coming for the discussion too. The sergeant brings a thermos to fill before she leaves.
We still cover the same things: garage break-ins, catalytic converters and the man who wants to explain how parking used to work on his block. He found the new address without any trouble.
People have begun dressing for it. Someone asked me about a dress code, which there isn't. I do keep a list now because we can't fit everyone in the parlor, even after bringing in the dining chairs.
Next month we are discussing package lockers. I suggested an evening meeting with something to eat afterward. The sergeant is against making it supper, but she has agreed to look at the dates.
