The Lincoln Park Trixie Society does not typically issue statements on matters of national politics or civil society. It is issuing one now.
George Floyd was murdered on May 25. The members of this Society — women who live in a city, in a neighborhood, and in a country that has never distributed its protections equally — have a responsibility to say so clearly.
"The Society stands with those demanding accountability and structural change," said Executive Director Ashley Munroe. "We understand that Lincoln Park is not the whole city. We understand that the Village's relative comfort has always existed in relation to other people's relative discomfort. We are examining that honestly."
The Society has made a contribution to the Chicago Community Trust's Resilience Fund and encourages its members to do the same, through whatever channels feel most meaningful to them.
