LPTS Foundation

Helping new Members settle in, and supporting the neighborhood they call home.

The LPTS Foundation began as the Society’s Trixie incubator program. Its first concern was practical: getting young women established in Lincoln Park when an entry-level salary had already met the rent.

The early program helped with Jettas, apartment furnishings, clothes, and social outings. Its board also took an interest in suitable husbands, sometimes before the candidate had finished choosing a sofa. Members still remember the apartments, especially the ones where everyone could just fit around the table.

The Foundation welcomed women arriving from Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, and elsewhere. Advice from a Member who had already made the move was often as useful as the funding.

The Foundation board meets every other month. Caroline brings the accounts; proposals for the next round of support are considered before other business. The wisteria archway tends to receive a full discussion.

The Foundation Mandate

The Foundation’s work now includes arts education, women’s health, parks, and neighborhood projects alongside its interest in new Members. Caroline oversees the giving, with particular attention to what each proposal will actually provide.

Foundation-sponsored Members enter the T.I.T. track with support from the Membership Committee. Erin helps with orientation, and established Members make introductions. The next gathering need not wait until the apartment is completely furnished.

To Support the Foundation

The Foundation operates on member dues, corporate sponsorship, and an annual fundraising event held in conjunction with the Champagne Brunch. Inquiries regarding donations, sponsorship, or candidate recruitment may be directed to the Foundation Chair.
