A Standing Institution of the Society

The Office of the Anthem.

The Society maintains an Official Anthem. It is permanent. It also changes every season. The Office of the Anthem does not consider these two facts to be in conflict, and would prefer you didn't either.

The Office keeps the Society's seasonal music selections. Its earlier resolutions are in the archive, which is being reorganized.

The Office selects the music for Society occasions and circulates the recording to Members. Suggestions tend to arrive after someone has heard a song on the way home.

How the Anthem Is Chosen

An anthem must be heard at least three times at the playground off Oak Street Beach and cause at least one Committee member to become emotional in a parked car. The Office accepts reports of both.

Suggestions may be sent to the Office before the next seasonal meeting.

The Current Anthem

The reigning Official Anthem is "End of Beginning" by Djo, named the Official Summer Theme by formal resolution.

On Previous Anthems

Previous selections remain in the archive. The Office has not yet agreed whether to publish a complete playlist; several Members feel very strongly about the order.

One Committee member maintains there was a winter anthem two years ago that was, in her words, "the best one we ever had." She cannot recall what it was. The Office has chosen to believe her anyway.

A Note on the TrixieMale

The TrixieMale runs his own anthem, always one season behind. By the time he has fully committed to the current selection — learned the words, played it at the grill, declared it "actually a really good song" — the Office has quietly moved on to the next one. He is, at any given moment, the most enthusiastic supporter of an anthem that no longer holds office. The Society finds this endearing and does not correct him.
