A Trixie Guide

A Trixie Guide to North Halsted Street

North Halsted Street is, and has been for some time, the spine along which the Member conducts her morning, the Society's standing position is that any properly managed week in the village touches this street at minimum twice and probably four times, and that a Member who has not walked the corridor between Webster and Wrightwood in the past seven days has not been operating at full capacity.

1 · The morning circuit

The standard rotation: coffee at the Starbucks at North Halsted and Wrightwood, the standing order. Then south to the Athleta, where the Member may try on without obligation and frequently does. Then across to the Sweetgreen for the bowl that has been ordered so often that the staff begins it before the request is voiced. The Society has noted that the bowl options have changed; this is being addressed separately.

2 · Lululemon, the corridor's anchor

The Lulu on North Halsted is a frequent stop. Members comparing it with Athleta should leave time to try things on at both. The Committee has not reached a decision that applies to every pair of leggings.

3 · The wine merchant

The Society will not name its preferred wine shop on this street. The Member who needs to know already knows. The Member who does not is encouraged to make her own inquiries; the staff is forthcoming with those who ask correctly.

4 · The closures one does not discuss

Three establishments on this corridor have closed in recent memory and are not to be raised at brunch. The Society maintains a quiet register of what was lost; the register is not published. The replacements are being assessed. Members are asked to be patient. The village is doing the work.

5 · After dark

Dinner can easily become a later evening on Halsted. Members who have made an ambitious morning plan are advised to remember it before ordering another glass.
