We don't usually shop on Black Friday. I dislike the crowds, and I don't particularly want anything called a doorbuster. The plan was to stay home and eat leftovers.
At 7:02 my phone told me the Milanese coat was forty percent off. In my size. One remaining.
It was an alert from the AI, which had apparently continued watching the coat after talking me out of it in September. Its earlier analysis, it explained, had been based on full price. At the new price, the difference between this one and my other charcoal coat was “defensible.”
I was in my robe in the kitchen when I read that. The collar had not changed. My existing coat had not changed. But the advice now was to buy it.
I asked whether wanting it had counted for anything after all. It replied that wanting the same coat for two winters suggested this wasn't an impulse, and reminded me there was only one left. I had made the first part of that argument myself in September. It was much more persuasive coming back with the markdown.
The coat arrives Tuesday.
