The Society Issues a Clarifying Statement on Griswold, Iowa

The Lincoln Park Trixie Society today issued a follow-up statement regarding Tuesday's bulletin on Iowa City's placement on CNN's list of the best U.S. cities to visit, after several Members, and at least one unaffiliated podcast, questioned Executive Director Dr. Ashley Munroe's characterization of Iowa City as her hometown.

“The Society does not retract anything,” said Dr. Munroe, reading from a prepared statement she described as final. “It clarifies. There is a difference, and the difference is the entire statement.”

The Society's Office of Society Intelligence has since circulated an internal memo distinguishing between a Member's hometown (Griswold, Iowa, by birth and by cattle), her hometown of record (Iowa City, Iowa, by matriculation and by parallel parking), and her hometown-adjacent designation (also Iowa City, reserved for cases in which the hometown of record wishes to be recognized separately from the hometown, a distinction the memo concedes “exists for exactly one Member at this time”).

The Society has not requested a response from Griswold. Jill suggested that the correction could be handled in one sentence; Ashley asked for a press conference.

“A hometown is a feeling before it is a form of paperwork,” Dr. Munroe added, closing the press conference she had convened for an audience of two. “Griswold gave me the feeling. Iowa City filed the paperwork. I see no conflict, and I have asked the Office of Society Intelligence to stop looking for one.”

The Society reaffirms its position that Iowa City and Griswold are, for all Society purposes, the same hometown, filed under two names for administrative convenience.

The Office of Society Intelligence has been asked to use both place names in future biographies. Ashley will review the order in which they appear.
